Hovingham Coffee Mornings – a positive space for parents

A sociable way to start the day each Tuesday in term time, straight after drop off at 8.30am until 10am.

Our Hovingham Coffee Morning for parents and carers of children at Hovingham Primary School is a really sociable way to start the day each Tuesday in term time, straight after drop off at 8.30am until 10am.

Beverley Gilbert, Feel Good Factor’s Community Engagement Worker and Health & Wellbeing Coach, says “We have speakers in sometimes or exercise sessions, coming up soon is Mindful Moving. Even if there isn’t anything special happening we always have something to do like word searches and mindful colouring in, for parents/carers who don’t have time for that at home. We discuss mental health and other topics of interest to the group, we encourage speaking English to help with English as a second language and it’s just a great opportunity for me to give out help, advice and to signpost about various topics including benefits, housing, courses, health and cost of living, to name a few.”

Most recently the group discussed the 16 Days of Action Against Gender Based Violence which is an international campaign that runs each year from November 25th (the United Nations Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women) to December 10th (Human Rights Day) and encourages action and awareness against all forms of violence against women and girls. In an associated craft activity the group made bows with positive statements and talked about what positive relationships looked like for them.
