What a fabulous summer our Holiday Club had in 2026, making friends, making memories, trying new experiences and visiting new places.
Kicking off with a day trip to Scarborough our Holiday Club travelled in style thanks to Northern Rail and enjoyed a full day of organised fun with Yorkshire County Cricket Foundation. We had a glorious time watching the Yorkshire v Hampshire game and then headed down to the beach to put what we had seen into action, playing against other teams from around Yorkshire. This was the first of the very hot and sunny days we experienced during the Summer Holiday Club.
Next a trip to Lineham Farm involved food, games and challenges – including low ropes and the climbing wall, bush craft, a nature walk and fire building. Building our own hammocks we enjoyed a well deserved rest, before toasting marshmallows over our own made flames.
Staying local we used the facilities over at the Roscoe church hall to play cricket and games in the morning and then spent an afternoon at Feel Good Factor creating water colour painted book marks and playing more games.
Into Leeds city centre we explored town with a theme of the famous Potts clocks, owls and museums, we learnt about William Potts and saw some of the clocks he was commissioned to build, we had fun spotting the Leeds golden owls and spent time in the City Museum and the different galleries.
Community artist Emily had us exploring different emotions and the colours that represent them, splitting into groups to create four wonderful works of art which are to be displayed at Feel Good Factor, and making healthy snacks.
Armley Industrial Mills taught us about the lives of mill workers, which was eye opening for most of the young people as they learned how children as young as 5 worked in very noisy and dangerous conditions 6 days a week for 12+hours a per shift.
Our friends British Cycling met up with us in Potternewton Park for cycling, games, races and challenges.
Meanwood Valley Urban Farm gave us a super day, including a nature hunt and crafting with clay, playing games in the meadow and relaxing in glorious weather.
Animal Yoga was a new one on all of us, and our tutor Dawn told us about each woodland animal as we took up their pose. More crafting including decoupage plant pots, games and jigsaws made a relaxing and mindful day.
For our last day we went out to the Yorkshire Dales travelling to Settle, with badge making, lunch and a riverbank walk enjoying nature and wildlife.
Beverley Gilbert, our Community Wellbeing Worker says, “I have lots of people to thank for making our 2026 Summer Holiday Club such a success. Northern Rail for free train travel, Yorkshire County Cricket Foundation for our day in Scarborough and cricket sessions, Lineham Farm for looking after us so well with great food and super activities, British Cycling for a fun afternoon of games and challenges on bikes. Plus our wonderful crafters and makers who shared so much of their skills and inspired all the children to create some wonderful memories.”
