On Wednesday, 16th October, Feel Good Factor proudly hosted a special event to celebrate the International Day of Older Persons (IDOP) and Black History Month. The celebration was made possible through the generous support of Leeds Older People’s Forum.

The event focused on recognising and honouring the achievements and contributions of our older generation. To promote connection across age groups, we designed the day to be intergenerational, creating opportunities for younger and older people to engage, share, and learn from one another.

In partnership with students from Leeds City College, the day was filled with creativity, conversation, and collaboration. It was heart warming to see new faces alongside familiar ones, all coming together.

One of the highlights of the day was a rock painting activity, where students and older participants worked side-by-side, sharing artistic ideas and creating vibrant designs. The Feel Good Factor community garden also came to life, as the students supported older guests with weeding and preparing the space for planting spring bulbs — a beautiful metaphor for growth and connection across generations.

The painted rocks will be placed in the garden and a new garden bench was purchased with a plaque to place in front of the flowerbed. Once the bulbs bloom the garden will be there for all to enjoy. A safe space for everyone to access.

The atmosphere was joyful and inclusive, with plenty of delicious food and engaging activities for everyone to enjoy – a fantastic day that celebrated the power of community.
