‘The Encore scheme certainly has had a positive impact on my health and wellbeing. I wouldn’t normally afford the opera but you have literally the feel good factor feeling afterwards. I come out singing the songs!’

On Tuesday 21st January a group of FGF service users visited the Grand Theatre in Leeds to see Opera North’s production of Cinderella a new production of Rossini’s sparkling comedy performed by an exciting international cast. A much-loved fairy tale, but not quite as you know it. Cinderella scrubs the floor of a dance school and dreams of a better life. A prince arrives seeking a companion and so this sparkling romcom is set in motion.

Our group were really excited to see the show and especially to see this modern take on Cinderella sung opera style, in Italian! This was made possible by Opera North’s Encore Scheme, part of their community engagement programme.

One service user, Lynn, said ‘The performance of Cinderella was fantastic. The singing was out of this world, the acting and dancing great, but best of all was the humour that was injected throughout the performance. I would go to see this performance again.’
