Introduction

Promoting healthy and active lives is central to all of the work of Feel Good Factor. Alongside this work we are focusing on a specific health campaign promoting the Got a cough? Get a Check message.

Get it off your chest is a community health project based within Feel Good Factor which works in the inner east area of Leeds. Using a combination of Community Health Educators and volunteers, we deliver relaxation and chest health workshops to people in this locality.

We are working in partnership with NHS Leeds and the main reason for carrying out the campaign is to raise awareness of respiratory symptoms. If respiratory illnesses, are caught early they can be treated more successfully.

The overall purpose of the campaign is to enable people to:

  • Recognise the key symptoms of chest problems
  • Understand that earlier diagnosis leads to better outcomes
  • Understand how they can self-refer for chest x-rays
  • Understand they can use their G.P. for further discussion or referral
  • Offer support and accompany people who want to attend a chest x-ray but are reluctant to do so on their own.
  • Pass on the Got a cough, get a check message.
