Advice

Within our cooking courses, cook and eat sessions, and healthy eating workshops an emphasis is placed on delivering key healthy eating messages as stated below:

5 a day – eat five portions of fruit and vegetables per day

Reduce salt – consume no more than 6g of salt per day recommended by the Food Standards Agency

Eat a balanced diet full of variety from the five food groups

  1. Fruit and vegetables
  2. Bread, rice, potatoes, pasta
  3. Milk and dairy foods
  4. Meat, fish, eggs and beans
  5. Foods and drinks high in fat and / or sugar

Eat less sugary foods.

Limit fat and change the type of fat eaten - reduce saturated fat content and eat foods containing monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats.

Eat more starchy carbohydrates - aim to eat more of the wholemeal varieties as the energy from these foods is released much slower in comparison with the white varieties.
