hlhhmontagesmallWe’ve announced a second wave of Big Lottery Funding for their partnership project Healthy Lives, Healthy Homes (HLHH) which focuses on the increasing health needs of older Black & Minority Ethnic (BME) people in Chapeltown & Harehills.

Corrina Lawrence, Chief Executive of Feel Good Factor says: ‘After working in this specific area for the past three years, this new funding will enable us to build on our knowledge and experience of the needs of older BME people, to ensure they, and their carers, are provided with the services, information and activities to allow them to live active, healthy and independent lives.’

As the lead and accountable body in the partnership, Feel Good Factor, along with Care & Repair Leeds and Leeds Black Elders will work with other locally based organisations to enable older BME people to retain and maintain their health, independence and control by focusing on preventative services and support around positive activities and housing. The project will also empower them to benefit from mainstream provision that may have, in the past, been difficult to access.

Ruth Cornelissen, Chief Executive of Care & Repair (Leeds) says: “Care & Repair is excited to again be a key partner in providing services to vulnerable older people living in Chapeltown and Harehills through the second phase of the HLHH project.  We provided support and interventions to over 300 people in the first three years of the project.’

The HLHH project works in partnership with statutory, voluntary organisations and housing providers in the area to avoid duplication and improve efficiency, resulting in a more co-ordinated approach.

Feel Good Factor provides the physical and emotional support aspect of Healthy Lives, Healthy Homes through peer mentoring, advocacy and activities to grow social and support networks for older people who have become socially isolated, either through ill health or caring responsibilities.

Care & Repair (Leeds) visits older people in their homes to assess their housing needs to live independently through making simple adaptations or referrals.

Leeds Black Elders provides a decorating and gardening service which enables older people to live safely and comfortably in their homes and support to access to activities.
